Bocchino Motors/European Technology Bodyworks
The Bocchino family originated from Italy in a country town called Naples. The family moved to Tasmania, Australia, in 1969 and lived in Sandy Bay. The challenge of settling into a new country was decreased by the small but supportive Italian community. Speaking English was on the top of the list of things to achieve while settling in. English proved to be a constant challenge when communicating to fellow schoolmates and neighbours. As the years passed, their English improved but not rapidly enough to abstain from learning the rude words first. It’s Italian custom to be hospitable to all people and to always work hard. No matter what the job is you have to always do your best, and if it’s not good enough then learn how to do it better. This quality was continued in Tasmania by the parents and was strongly affirmed into the kids which led to them excelling in all the small side jobs they embarked upon. They included bagging at the local grocery store, painting, floor polishing and Nino took a mechanic apprenticeship at the local VW mechanic shop. The interest in cars grew amongst the other siblings as the eldest succeeded in his field of mechanics and cars becoming more observed by the ladies. This spawned an interest within the other three bothers and not long after Luigi took up a panel beating apprenticeship. The duo began a backyard workshop with secondhand equipment and help from other family members. Work for friends and family became more frequent and Alfonso began a trade in mechanical work. Not long after the youngest brother Vincenzo took up a spray painting apprenticeship. It became clear that the four brothers could sustain their own business processes. However, they didn’t have any more siblings to fill in a business role. Alfonso took up the challenge to go back to school to learn accounting and the art of running a small business. Sitting down for long periods of time proved to be a major change and challenge to the normal lifestyle, after each role was filled; mechanic, panel beater, spray painter and accountant, the Bocchino brothers register the business name: BOCCHINO MOTORS in 1978. The backyard jobs were done fast but quality was always the over powering criterion. This trait became a major attraction to potential customers. The friendly relationships that the Bocchino’s possess with their customers also added to the success of acquiring new customers and retaining existing ones. Fast forward to today and Bocchino Motors still prides itself on quality workmanship. They are accredited and qualified panel repairers as well as being a preferred BMW repairer and authorised Land Rover and Jaguar repairer. The building has had major changes since the first shed and the technology is constantly changing to be kept up to date with the latest automotive repair industry requirements. But one thing has not changed, and that is the motivation to produce the highest quality in automotive repairs and customer service in Tasmania.
